Q. How long is the traveling basketball season in comparison to the rec basketball season?
A. The regular season lasts from late October/November to March. Seasons do have the possibilty of running longer based on the the State Tournament. The WBL recreational season lasts roughly 10 weeks.
Q. How much travel is involved during the season?
A. Most tournaments will be scheduled in the north metro. Some teams may play a limited schedule in western Wisconsin.
Q. How many games are played?
A. The WBBA does not have weekly games as does the rec department. Most teams will play in 8-12 weekend tournaments during the year. The typical tournament consists of 3 games.
Q. What type of team fees should be expected?
A. This is based on the specifics of the team. Should a team want to have pictures taken, buy warm ups, purchase t-shirts, stay in hotels for tournaments, these costs are based on the team, team managers, parents and coaches decisions. Each team is different in this aspect.
Q. How are teams chosen?
A. Teams are selected through a try-out process for both boys and girls at every grade level that participates in the WBBA which starts at the 5th grade level and goes through 8th grade. Teams are then chosen based on the result of those try-outs and announced at a later date.
Q. How many practices can be expected?
A. Most teams will practice twice a week all season long.
Q. What type of equipment should my son/daughter have?
A. Each player should have their own ball, shoes for the court only and appropriate attire to play in.
Q. As a parent, what does the WBBA expect of me?
A. As a parent, the Association expects the respectful support of the players, to lead as an example of good sportsmanship and to volunteer.
Q. When you say volunteer, what does that entail?
A. Each team is assigned a night to work at a Varsity basketball game in White Bear Lake, either for boys or girls. This is a job we ask of all teams and all parents. Aside from this, each team will also have the responsibility of working during the WBL Tournament which takes place in February. These details will follow after the season begins. There are always positions available for those who want to volunteer with the Association in several capacities for those who are interested.
