Good Luck to All Participants at Tryouts September 21st and 22nd

Once tryouts are completed, teams will be formed the following week.

Teams will be officially announced Saturday the 28th by 3pm.

Registration Deadline for Tryouts - September 18th, 2019

Traveling Basketball Expectations

The expectations of a traveling basketball player in the WBBA is for players to participate in all practices and games within their control (health, injury, school activity, family emergency or weather are considered out of a player's control) and to communicate with the coach if they are going to miss a practice or game. If a player registers for a team and is not able to participate in 80% of practices and 80% of games within their control it detracts from the ability to foster a team atmosphere. Playing time and the following year's team placement will be impacted for those not adhering to these guidelines. Practice schedules for most teams are 1.5 hours twice each week and those nights could be Mondays or Tuesdays or Thursdays. Tentative tournament schedules are available upon request to determine if these requirements are able to be met by your family.

Tryout Process

There is a $20.00 try-out registration fee for everyone attending tryouts. This is non-refundable and must be paid online at the time of registration.

At the time of the physical tryouts, players will need to check in at their appropriate site with the on site volunteers who will have the roster for try-outs based on the online registration and must have their tryout fee paid in full.

Players are selected for teams based on their tryout performance. Tryouts consist of both a Saturday and Sunday evaluation for all players. Players are evaluated by qualified coaches from outside the White Bear Lake District using a standardized numerical system of scoring. Players will be selected by rating result as well as position considerations. Each team needs to consist of a distribution of guards, forwards and centers. Coaches select the teams according to the by-laws.

Scoring consists of 35% drills and 65% scrimmages. Each day involves a combination of both to provide the most opportunities for the players to shine. During scrimmages, evaluators are looking for the ability to score, offensive skills (passing and ball handling), defensive skills and team play. The WBBA attempts to field 2 teams each at the 4th-8th grade level for girls and boys. However, based on interest level, we may field 3 teams at an aga group.  Teams at the 4th grade level are typically split evenly, while 5th-8th grade teams will consist of an A and B team. Most teams consist of 10 players, however it is possible to have more or less on occasion.
